Made myself dinner tonight for the first time in a looong time. It was so, so good, not because it was anything particularly decadent or spectacular, but because I just really needed to fix my own food. Deciding what to cook, buying the ingredients for it, cooking it, and then eating it—that’s how I like to roll, baby. As much as it’s convenient to come home and just have dinner, on a plate, ready to be heated up in the microwave, I really like deciding what I want to eat.

And okay, maybe I lied—because there’s something a little decadent about buying a fresh slab of sashimi-quality salmon and poaching it gently until it’s flaky, soft, juicy and just-cooked-but-not-over-cooked. Mmm. Also, oven-grilled zuchinni is always a win in my book.
